60+ drivers in Senior MAX as Winter Trophy event doubles in size from 2023
What a difference a year makes. Just over 100 entries at the 2023 edition of the RTX Karting promoted RMC Winter Trophy, 2024 entry numbers for the first event weekend are set to surpass the 200 mark. With the first two rounds of the four-race series this coming weekend at the Orlando Kart Center, drivers from around the globe will descend into central Florida for their shot to represent their country at the 2024 RMC Grand Finals in Italy later this year.
“The support has been tremendous, and this will be a record-setting event for us,” expressed RTX Karting’s Julieta Fernandez. “We have several of the top teams in North America already set up in Orlando and top drivers from around the world. Rotax is alive and well again in the United States, and we are more excited than ever.”
Along with growing their dealer network across the country, the Rotax numbers have steadily increased through the past 12 months and that has been proven by the quantity of drivers pre-entered for the Winter Trophy. With more than 60 competitors in Senior MAX, numbers are close to 40 in Junior MAX as well as 30 each in Micro and Mini MAX.
Fernandez continued, “Teams like PSL Karting, Speed Concepts Racing, Prime Karting, Ben Cooper Racing, Goodwood Kartways, AKT Racing, Scott Campbell Racing, Ironrock Motorsports, Sodi USA, Racing Edge Motorsports, Rolison Performance Group, Orlando Kart Center, Supertune USA and more are here with drivers from more than ten nations.”
Senior MAX has a tremendous turnout of more than 60 drivers entered including the likes of Aidan Fox, Ayden Ingratta, Wesley Gundler, 2023 RMC Winter Trophy Champion Eduardo Barrichello, Diego Ramos, Frankie Mossman, Ryan Norberg, Austin Garrison, Harley Keeble, Nolan Bower, Macy Williams, and more. With only 36 competitors advancing to each of the main events on Saturday and Sunday, just making the main event could be a challenge with the two-heat race format.
Junior MAX will see the perennial front-runners of Nathan Dupuis and Turner Brown while Isaac Malcuit will also look to contend. Recent podium winner and Canadian Ty Fisher will throw his hat in the mix alongside the likes of Teddy Musella, Joao Pereira, Jackson Wolny, Carson Weinberg, Salvador Della Vecchia, and more as the class crests the 40-entry mark.
“The racing in Senior Max and Junior MAX is set to be incredible,” added Fernandez. “With Grand Finals tickets on the line for class champions at the end of the series, they will be battling hard for race wins and podium results.”
Mini MAX will see 30+ drivers battle the challenging Orlando Kart Center. As one of the most diverse classes, competitors from ten different countries look to earn the title of RMC Winter Trophy Champion and travel to Italy later this year. 25 drivers are set in Micro MAX with all of them utilizing the new Rotax cylinder that was provided free with their entry. With a new manufacturing process and the already close racing action in the youngest Rotax division, we will see competitors run nose to tail throughout the weekend in a high-speed game of chess.
With a ticket on the line in DD2 MAX and DD2 Master MAX, nearly 20 two-speed kart drivers will aim for the top step of the podium led by Canadian and 2022 Winter Trophy Champion Gianluca Savaglio. Master MAX will see the names of Mundy Loyer and 2022 Series Champion Rubens Barrichello as they battle nearly 20 drivers from around the world.
With unofficial practice all week, the official competition will begin on Friday with practice throughout the day and qualifying later in the afternoon. Setting the grid for the first wheel-to-wheel action on Saturday, two heat races will be followed by the main event to crown winners for race one with a carbon copy of the schedule on Sunday for race two.
